Order of Vedantic Study

Before exploring the Upanishads, it is recommended that students study:

  1. Introduction to Vedanta fullsizeoutput_1c
  2. Value of Values
  3. Tattvabodha
  4. The Teachings of the Bhagavad Gita
  5. Upadesha Saram
  6. Bhagavad Gita Home Study (9 volumes)

Other important texts include: Vivekachudamani, Aparoksanubhuti and Panchadasi. For those who enjoy reading books, Swami Dayananda is as good as it gets. For those who like to listen, I recommend Swami Paramarthananda. It can take 5-10 hours of listening to get used to his accent but once you do, you’ll  find his teachings impeccable. After completing the two lists, you’ll be ready for the Brahma Sutras, which Swami Paramarthananda offers via audio (350 hours).

Upanishads:

  1. IMG_0031Mundaka, (35 YouTube Videos)
  2. Kena
  3. Katha
  4. Kaivalya
  5. Taittiriya
  6. Mandukya
  7. Aiteraya
  8. Prashna
  9. Isha
  10. Brihadranyaka
  11. Chandogya

Other excellent teachers in this lineage of Swami Dayananda include Swami Tattvavidananda of the Arsha Vidya Gurukulam and Swami Tadatmananda of the Arsha Bodha Center. Of course there are others and it’s important you make a connection and feel inspired.
