Dharma Talk, A Traditional Vedanta Study Group 2.2.17 (Video)
Dakshinamurthy – “दक्षिणामूर्ति is an aspect of the Hindu god Shiva as a guru (teacher) of all types of knowledge. This aspect of Shiva is his personification as the supreme or the ultimate awareness, understanding and knowledge.” Wikipedia
Below you will find a video link, the first of a two part introduction to Vedanta “The Big Picture,” filmed at True Nature Healing Arts, in Carbondale, CO. This is the second year of our Vedanta Study Group. In the first we explored “Essence of Enlightenment,” by James (Ramji) Swartz. Following this two part introduction we will read “Introduction to Vedanta,”by Swami Dayananda.
Opening chant shared in the video:
from the first guru, pure existence/consciousness,
down to Shankaracharya in the midddle
asmad acharya paryantaam
and my teacher at the end
vande guru paramparam
I prostrate to guru-disciple tradition
Isvara, my guru,
murthi bedha vibaghine
is beyond form and duality
vyomavad vyapta dehaya
beyond space and the body
I bow to Isvara in the form of Dakshinamurti, the one who brings self knowledge
sarva vedanta siddhanta
the import of all Vedanta texts
is beyond the known and the unknown
it is limitless bliss and unborn light
I worship that reality as my guru
