The self is not the person on your birth certificate or drivers license. The self is not the sum total of your experience, successes or failures. Nor is it who you know, where you’ve been, how much money you have or what you look like. The self is not your body, heart or mind. All the above represent the jiva, or embodied soul.
The self is sat-chit-ananda or existence, consciousness, limitless-ness. The real you that the limited jiva appears within.
No one can discount that you exist and that are conscious but do you believe you are limitless – unmodified by all objects and experience? This is ananda, limitless-ness.
No matter what happens or doesn’t happen, the self, you, are always whole, complete and good. This knowledge frees you to then follow your passions and share your gifts with the world, because you were born for this and won’t be happy until you do.
Vedanta offers a time tested teaching, a path of knowledge, that proves beyond the shadow of doubt, you are, have always been and will always be – limitless, conscious, existence.
